Recommended Reading on Finding and Following Your
Path The Alchemist: A Fable about Following
Your Dreams by Paulo Coelho. This simple and tender story often acts as a guide or sacred text for me.
As we follow our dreams and seek our destiny, we face obstacles. We often
feel alone and confused. Since reading this book three years ago (and many
times since), I draw strength and wisdom from the experiences of the main
character Santiago. I also recall the subtle cautionary tales regarding other
characters in the book who did not follow their dreams. There is magic in
this book and it always brings me back to love for the adventure of this
life. I Will Not Die the Unlived Life: Reclaiming Purpose
and Passion by Dawna Marcova. Marcova’s book moved me.
She shares her journey in a way that challenged me and provided clarity
regarding next steps to take on my path. As she speaks of purpose and
passion, she offers new perspectives on solitude and community. She guides us
in discovering and expressing our authentic selves. She supports us in
choosing to live fully alive, on purpose. She helps us “reconnect with
ourselves so we can stand for something that is greater than ourselves.”
Callings: Finding and Following an Authentic Life by Gregg Levoy. This beautifully written book is a rich resource. Levoy provides a
philosophical and practical guide to hearing and being in dialogue with whatever is calling
you. Callings is a passionate exploration of the search
for authenticity—at work, at home, in our relationships and in service. The
wisdom and powerful stories in this book can inspire us to translate calls
into actions. This book can also help us understand that responding to calls
brings authentic life, but not necessarily a certain outcome. The book helps
us address these questions: How do we recognize a call? How do we distinguish
a true call from a siren call? How do we handle our resistance to a call?
What happens when we say “yes”? What happens when we say “no”? If you want
guidance and encouragement as you seek to hear and respond to what is calling
you, this book is an excellent resource. The Purpose of Your Life: Finding Your
Place in the World Using Synchronicity, Intuition and Uncommon Sense by Carol Adrienne. This book is a practical and inspirational
guide to finding purpose, meaning and connection in our lives. Carol shares
moving stories and powerful quotes to illustrate the principles and
techniques she recommends for our journey. This book will be especially
beneficial for those who are questioning the next steps to take in their
lives. |
